already young Viking volleyball team will welcome seven new recruits to the program in 2011.

VCSU Viking volleyball head coach Susan Kolbow announced the signing of seven incoming freshman, including three from North Dakota, three Canadian prospects, and an all-star from South Dakota.

Leading the list is Carmeille Foster (MH, 6’2″, Aberdeen, SD), an Aberdeen Central Golden Eagle standout that led her team in blocks and kills, and powered her team to three state tournament appearances and one title.

Foster was named to the All-Conference first team, and on the state’s All-Tournament team, along with the honor role all four years of her academic career.  She was also named the state’s Miss Teen of America.

“She will be a force at the net. Carmeille has great footwork and is determined to succeed on the court,” said Kolbow of Foster.

Also at the net will be Kaitlyn Heuring (MH/RS, 6′, Winnipeg, MB), a 4A standout at the provincial level in Manitoba.  She guided her squad to a third place finish at the 2010 17-U Provincial Championships.

“I am really looking forward to working with Kaitlyn, her size gives her a huge advantage to be an unstoppable force at the net,” Kolbow said.

Three North Dakotans will fight for positions on the outside.  Jenna Kost (OH, 5’8″, Casselton, ND), Samantha Maxwell (OH, 5’9″, Fessenden, ND) and Jenni Wettstein (OH, 5’8″, Lidgerwood, ND) have all inked to play at VCSU.

Kost led the Central Cass Squirrels to the Region I title in 2010, and was an All-Region I selection, and a two-time All-Wild Rice Conference selection.

Maxwell helped the Wells County Bears win three straight District 7 titles, and won two All-Tournament spots, along with Senior Athlete of the Year honors this past season.

Wettstein was a part of the Lidgerwood Cardinals District 1 title this past of season, and won a spot on the All-District 1 and All-Wild Rice Conference teams.

Two additional Canadians will join the club.  Brittany Molstad (OH, 5’8″, Midale, SK) and Alley Theroux (OH/RS, 5’10”, Cold Lake, AB) will make the trip south to join the Vikings.

Molstad participated at the national level in Canada, and led her team to a bronze finish in the provincial tournament.  Theroux was a part of a provincial title team in 2010, the first provincial title for any athletic team by Cold Lake’s school.

“We are looking forward to have this very athletic bunch join us in the fall. I believe they will fit in well with the current roster. Not only are these young women athletic, but they excel in the classroom as well,” said Kolbow of the recruiting class.

The Vikings graduated just three players a year ago, and will be very young in 2011.  They finished fifth in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) race.

VCSU opens play at home by hosting Waldorf College of Forest City, IA, on August 20th at 1:30 p.m.
