CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team split with Steele in their latest action Tuesday, winning the game that counted in the league.

Valley City took out Steele 9-2 in the league game Tuesday night in Steele, the first of the doubleheader.  They were beaten 12-2 in the nightcap.

Brett Stearns struck out 12 over seven innings in the win of the first game.  Stearns gave up just four hits in the game, and allowed his team to keep a lead in a tight game before a five-run rally in the last inning  put on extra distance.

Austen Meyer and Jesse Hochstetler each had three hits and two RBI.  Masyn Olson had a pair of hits.

“Brett threw another gret game.  He had one little hiccup in the fourth inning but beared down and got through it,” said head coach Lance Lukes.

Spencer Meyer took the loss in the 12-2 defeat that ended the night.  

Valley City is now 15-13 overall, 9-5 in league play.  They host Edgeley at 12:30 p.m. in Valley City Thursday in the regular season finale.
