N.D.- The Oakes Golf Course has dealt with another season of very high water that has caused significant damage to the course, and talks are underway as to what to do for the future of the course.

The president of the golf course, Myron Jepson says due to Bear Creek vastly overflowing its banks this year, the course is in a significant deficit, and something must be done in order to prevent another lost golfing season from occurring. Bear Creek receives its water from the James River.

A general membership meeting is set for Thursday at the course to talk about raising funds for a dike project, that could cost around $130,000 and would be set up to an elevation of 1303 feet, two feet higher than the record crest of 1301 feet at the creek. Jepson says the course will be asking for donations from the community in order to pay for the cost of the dike. Even with the protection, Jepson notes it would still be possible for water to topple over, however, it would be much simpler to remove the water. Construction would not be able to start until the water is at a reasonable level.
