Jamestown College Athletic Director Lawrie Paulson announces Tony DeAnda has been named head women’s wrestling coach for the Jimmies.

DeAnda comes to Jamestown College from the U.S. Olympic Education Center, Marquette, Mich., where since 2005 he was the assistant women’s freestyle wrestling coach. He previously trained in the Resident Athlete Program at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colo., and competed in various national and international freestyle wrestling meets for Team U.S.A.

“I’ve been coaching women wrestlers for six and a half years, and I’m excited to bring that experience to Jamestown,” says DeAnda, who begins Sept. 26. “Jamestown College has a friendly, close-knit community atmosphere, and I’m eager to get there and get started.”

“We are very pleased to add Tony to our staff,” Paulson says. “He has extensive experience in working with female wrestlers and comes very highly recommended. I am confident that we found the right person to lead this program.”

DeAnda was a Real Pro Wrestling national champion in 2005, a three-time World and Olympic Trials placewinner (2003-05), and a Pan American Games bronze medalist in 2003. He is also a five-time Mexican national champion (1999-2002, 2004). His additional coaching experience includes Team Excel, Denver; Briar Cliff University, Sioux City, Iowa; and Lincoln (Neb.) East High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 1997 from the University of Nebraska.

Former Jimmie men’s and women’s assistant C.J. Campbell has been named interim head men’s wrestling coach. He joined the coaching staff in January and brings a diverse background including work as a high school athletic director, physical education teacher and wrestling coach, as well as personal training and strength and conditioning coaching.

“Coach Campbell has done a nice job in keeping both wrestling programs moving forward for the past couple of months,” Paulson says. “He deserves the chance to prove himself as the head coach, and I believe that he will.”

“I’ve coached wrestling at all different levels, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead this college program,” he says. “We have a young team, and I hope to motivate them to seek greatness.”

As a wrestler for Lindenwood (Mo.) University, Campbell was a two-time All-American and national runner-up. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in educational administration from Lindenwood.
