City, N.D. – Valley City residents voted to keep the city administrator position in place in Valley City following a special citywide election on Tuesday.

Unofficial results show 1,050 votes to keep the position compared to 888 votes to eliminate it in the special election.

City Auditor Avis Richter says voter turn was heavy as 1,938 ballots were cast in the election.

Valley City mayor Bob Werkhoven says he’s pleased with the results and hopes the city can work to resolve it’s differences from any previous disputes and move forward to start the healing process.

Petition chairman Brian Mindt supported eliminating the position. He was impressed with the high voter turnout and he said it would embolden him and his group to place the issue before voters again in another two years.
