CITY (NewsDakota.com)–Both Viking basketball teams split weekend double-headers, with the Viking men at home and the women on the road.

The Viking men hammered Briercrest, SK 83-46 Friday night, then dropped a 74-63 loss to Doane, NE to wrap up the weekend Saturday.

Aaron Duske (Soph., Buffalo, MN) scored 17 points off the bench to lead the Vikings, with four Vikings in double figures.  Sylvester Walker (Sr., St. Paul, MN) started a nice weekend with 11 points.

Two big scoring runs were not enough for the Vikings in the loss to Doane Saturday.  The Vikings used an 11-0 run to take a 44-40 lead early in the second half, but could not stop the Tigers’ perimeter shooting.

Walker capped his weekend with 14 more, and Jason Perkins (Fr., Shakopee, MN) had 17 off the bench to lead the Vikings.

The Vikings fell to 2-3 after the loss.  Their previous two losses were to Northwestern and Dordt, IA, both top-25 schools.  With Doane moving to 4-1, with one of those wins over a top-20 team, it is likely they will move into the top 25 at the end of the month.  That would leave the Vikings with three losses to top 25 teams.

The Viking women split on the road in South Dakota, taking a 54-51 win over Mount Marty in Yankton Friday night, then dropping a 76-71 loss in Mitchell at Dakota Wesleyan.

No individual statistics were available for the womens’ matchups.  The Vikings are now 2-3.

Next action for the Vikings is Tuesday, when they travel to MSU-Moorhead for a double header.  The games will be broadcast on Dakota Country Radio, with pregame starting at 5:35 p.m.
