MT  (NewsDakota.com)–The Vikings had a rough finish to an otherwise terrific season with a 47-0 loss to Carroll College in the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series in Helena, MT.

Valley City State’s offense never penetrated the Carroll College 20 yard line.  Turnovers took the Vikings out of their offensive groove, and the Fighting Saints dominated the line of scrimmage throughout the afternoon.

Final statistics were not available at the time of this report.

The Saints scored on their opening drive, then scored on a short field after a fumble by  quarterback Tommy Zinke (Jr., Rolla, ND) who was sacked on his own 21 yard-line.

Valley City State fell behind 20-0, and found a way to drive to the Saints 21, but had a drive stall on a failed fourth-down play.  Carroll College tacked on another score to take a 27-0 lead at the break.

The Saints tacked on three more scores in the third quarter, and then turned the Vikings away on another try at the Saints 21 yard line.

The Vikings finish 9-2 overall.  Carroll College moves to 11-1, and will host a second-round matchup next weekend.
