CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner boys basketball team plays it’s home and Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) opener tonight.

Valley City hosts Fargo Shanley, a team sporting a 1-1 record in both overall and EDC play.  The Deacons have beaten Devils Lake 84-56 and lost to Grand Forks Red River 87-64 to start the season.

A. J. Jacobson will be the Deacon most familiar to Hi-Liner players and fans.  He was fourth in the EDC in scoring a year ago, averaging 17.8 points.  He also took the second-most free throw attempts in the league, hitting 79.8% from the line.

Through three games, the Hi-Liners are 2-1, defeating Barnes County North and Griggs County Central in the Barnes County Tournament, then losing to Maple Valley in the finals.  Chase Carpenter and Josh Magnuson, their posts, have carried the bulk of the scoring load.
