– The state’s top-ranked Class B girls basketball teams met for an afternoon showdown Wednesday in Carrington, and it was the top-ranked Cardinals who came away with a two-point victory.

No. 1 Carrington edged No. 2 Grafton by a final score of 57-55 Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals improved to 5-0 on the season while handing Grafton (4-1) it’s first loss of the season.

Carrington jumped out to a big 21-9 lead after the first quarter, and led 42-35 entering the final period. Grafton rallied to make thing tight, but Carrington was able to hang on for the victory. Becca Scherr scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Cardinals. Kayla Hochhalter had 11 points and Breanna Barton added 10 for Carrington.

Four players scored in double figures for Grafton, led by Samantha DeSautel’s 15.

Up next: Carrington is back in action Thursday with an 11:30 a.m. game at Hillsboro against Cavalier.
