VALLEY CITY (NewsDakota.com) The recall election in Valley City will be held January 24.

Former Police Chief Dean Ross said he’s not running out of revenge, referring to last summer’s city investigation that led to his resignation. He said he didn’t accept the call to run for personal reasons but to encourage more community involvement from everyone is Valley City. Ross said the past is the past and it’s time to move forward for a positive change.

But, Mayor Bob Werkhoven believes this recall was put in place to draw attention away from the summer investigation.

Ross was cleared of any criminal activity. Ross said he’ll remain positive heading into the recall election and won’t sling any dirt during the campaign.

Werkhoven said he’s done nothing wrong to warrant a recall from office. He believes his engineering degree and work related experience has been an asset to Valley City. He said he and other city officials did a good job fighting the flood of 2011 and kept the city dry.

Dean Ross goes door to door visiting with Valley City residents a week before the election.

Ross said, “I love this city and want to be a good ear for the people of Valley City and lend a  strong voice if elected.” He said it takes a community to move any city forward, not just one person.

Bob Werkhoven points to one of his billboard along main in Valley City.

Werkhoven said the money spent on the recall and recent special election to eliminate the city administrator position could have gone to a better use. He said both elections will cost the city some $26,000 dollars. Werkhoven said the money could have been used to pave or mill and overlay 8 city street blocks in Valley City.

Incumbent Commissioner Ken Evenson is being challenged by Duane Magnuson in the recall election.

Absentee ballots are also available at city hall Monday through Friday. The only poll place next Tuesday’s will be inside the city commission chamber room.

“Ross was cleared of any wrong doing”…..correction. Ross was cleared of any CRIMINAL activity…..he certainly was not cleared of all wrong doing, of which there was plenty.

    • Dr. Livingood

      Dear Concerned
.Fifteen years ago, I met Don Hambrick at Columbia Business School, who is probably the world’s expert in the field of studying CEOs, top management teams, and boards. I was lucky to become his doctoral student.

Don now the Evan Pugh Professor, Smeal Chaired Professor of Management at the Smeal College of Business at Penn State.

A few years ago, Don decided to explore through a rigorous academic study just how damaging Narcissistic CEOs can be. It turns out they can be amazingly damaging – to the point of, in some cases, eventually killing their companies.

Don just completed a follow-up study that offers even more clarity on the problems they cause.

      Why study Narcissistic CEOs?

Besides the fact that we know lots of them exist out there today in business, Don explains it this way: They kill organizations.

I understand your pain and understand why the City wanted Ross gone. Ross thought he walked on water. He will learn he does not. I pitty those around him.

          Lloyd, You will lose. AGAIN.

        • Andrea

          Lloyd,
Picture this….All signs along interstate and on all maps….

          “Rossville”

          How perfect!

    • JS

      Dear Concernedinvc,
I listened to Cunninghams scripted talk show with Ross today. Ross told one lie after another. One of the big ones telling Cunningham he welcomes the new city administrator and says he knows the city needs the position. Really? When he was losing his job he stated on the radio the position was not needed. Then he admitted he already contacted the new adminstrator to tell him welcome and who Ross was. Believe me Mr. Ross the city already warned him way ahead of you trying to kiss up. You are good at it I will admit. The problem with Ross is he lost his power and can’t stand it. The people of VC are no longer intimidated by Ross and he can’t stand it. Ross can no longer send his Robo-cop out to do his dirty deeds. And he can’t stand it. He needs to continue to cut trees for favors, he is good at that.

      Mr. J

      • VCLand

For you also, If he was guilty, why did they not convict? All monies were there, just where he said. But you people just have it in your mind even despite what the law says, oh, that’s you are a part of what is above the law, how silly of me.

        • Debbie R

Dear Lloyd, So when you played with trains, did you keep a safe in the train full of money. I bet not, even you Lloyd had more sense. But for you to say it is OK for the Intimidator, you just may be losing your sense. But keep posting Lloyd, it is good for the City. Another quick question for you Lloyd. What is your next move? You can’t just sit still after your losing again, and again and again…………

        • Donna

Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd, when will you learn Lloyd

      • No-email-thanks

It is like black equals white, yes equals no, light equals dark. We don’t need a city administrator, we do need a city administrator. See. It’s so easy!

    • Janice

Conceredinvc. I agree. He stated on the Cunningham show today he was found innecent. That was another lie. The man totally believes he is honest. He coughed up the money when he got caught. So if he was a cop and caught a bank robber with money. All the bank robber would have to do is give him the money back and he would be set free?? Or would he put the money in another account at his wifes bank? This does not include the insoboardination, etc. What kind of man would do this to a city? Not a very sain one.

      • faithful

        Get a dictionary.
        innecent – innocent
        insoboardination – insubordination

      • JAD

If he was guilty, why did they not convict? All monies were there, just where he said. But you people just have it in your mind even despite what the law says, oh, that’s you are a part of what is above the law, how silly of me.

        • He loves this city

Lloyd, what about the other 18 counts. Indtimidation of employees? Harrassment? Insubordination? The list goes on and on and on. Remember it took BCI to get him to cough up your money Lloyd.

        • Dean

Lloyd if I explain this will you lay low like Brian so I can have a chance at winning?

          • faithful

Very funny. Dean is a grown up and wouldn’t stoop to this level putting his name on this.

    • He loves this city?

Ross lost his power to intimidate. It is killing him. Can you imagine why a person after being released on 18 counts would want to come back and work with all the people that found all these counts against him? What kind of person would do that? City Hall did not just get up one morning, gather at the coffee pot and say, “lets pick on Ross today”.

      • realistic

Your mind must be real short, remember , when he gets in the third in command, Mayor bob, will be gone. Next June second in command Wagnor will be gone & the top dog abandoned ship right after the last vote, remember? So the ones that done this are gone. Drove by city hall this morning and seen bobby cleaning out his desk already

        • Ilovethiscity

Lloyd I thought CCI told you to lay low and not speak?

        • Dr. Hendricsen

Lloyd, What has changed in Ross? He did not want to play as a team before he was released. Now he does. Can you explain this Lloyd?
          Dr. Hendricsen

        • No-email-thanks

Mayor is not third in command, council members are not second in command, and who’s on first would not be the city administrator.

  • Will

All these candidates need to answer questions from the public in public before the election. At least three of the candidates have said they want transparency yet why hasn’t there been a public forum before the election?

    1) Mr.Werkhoven, you ran on transparency and invited public involvement and then went against that pledge. Why? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jmgKR-LD5Q
    2) Mr.Ross, a number of questions should be asked about the charges that the city had against you.
    3) Mr.Evenson, the recall process is a legitimate, legal process that the citizens can use if they are dissatisfied with their employees (public servants like you). Why do you resent that?
    4) Mr.Magnuson, if elected, what would you do differently than Evenson?

Now these are just a sample of questions that should be asked and answered before the vote. My guess is that these candidates don’t want to have a forum or one would be held. Makes one wonder.

    • GETALIFE

Werkhoven ran on transparency, that’s correct! And for that, those CCI crazies made a circus of commission meetings. Why on earth would he or Evenson continue the nonsense by having a ‘debate’ when they were duly elected and have done nothing wrong. Their only crime is cleaning up this filty rotten ol’ boys network in this town. The truth is that Ross got caught in the middle of local lawyers and judges who had some pretty shady and lazy things going on….and Ross paid for his actions by being dis-employed. You want a different mayor or commimssioner? vote for one on the next REGULAR election.

      • Will

Getalife, calm down please, I can feel your blood pressure rise. Like it or not there is an election on January 24th. Ignore that and don’t vote. But for us who would like the issues discussed and hear how the candidates stand on the issues, a forum should be held. You can call it a debate if you’d like but forums generally let the candidates weigh in on the issues and there is really not much debating going on. I can see your mind is made up and that is fine but for those who minds are not made up is the reason for a forum and a chance for the candidates to go on the record on the issues. A forum is transparency. I’ve pretty much made up my mind on the commission seat but Mayor is still a tossup for me. Your diehard support for the status quo only nudges me away from your candidate.

        • convernedinvc

I think I recognize your voice. It’s the one I hear on local radio [right before I change stations].

          • Ryan Cunningham

Im assuming that convernedinvc is implying that I have commented on this thread. Just a note to our readers, I only comment on articles if a correction to an article is requested, and that has happened all of once. These boards are yours to comment on, not mine. Also, don’t really care to have a forum on this election. The people will choose, and life will go on. I’m just wondering what everyone is so “converned” about. I don’t remember ever being “converned” about anything.

          • Will

It’s interesting that you would asume it was you that was the reason converned was turning stations.

I also find it interesting that you don’t care to have a forum. Maybe you just don’t like forums generally, and that’s fine, but here we have two people who have never held political positions before so they don’t have any kind of voting record to look at. The other two are being recalled and should be wanting a forum to publicly lay out the reasons that they should keep their jobs. If there was ever a reason to hold a forum this is it. I have gone to forums in the past and find them very enlightening.

I’ll give you an example. I went to the republican “debate” (which really was a forum because there wasn’t really any debating going on) at the college a few weeks back. I knew before hand a lot about the candidates. I went to that event fully expecting to vote for a particular one of the five candidates at the end in the straw poll. After listening to their answers I could not vote for the one that I was sure I would have. Forums are a great place to hear the candidates first hand with a room full of people and not just one on one at your door step or through the words of a talk show host or newspaper writer.

If a forum was held, I’d bet the room would be full of concerned citizens trying to sort through this situation. This election is a big deal and shouldn’t be swept under the rug.

          • Ryan Cunningham

I wouldn’t sweep an election under the rug. But in this case, I don’t see the need for a forum. I think the controversy over the summer has illustrated the positions of the candidates. I’m confident that the citizens of Valley City will be making an informed decision, no matter how they vote. I think a forum would be a disruptive influence in an already-degrading campaign atmosphere. I was ill, and not in at work today, but I received about eight text messages, two calls, and four emails about a flyer that circulated today. It was some pretty negative campaigning that you usually don’t see in a city election. I am actually looking forward to this being taken care of and moving on, no matter the makeup of the commission after the 24th.

          • Will

I remember back when Drake, Wagar, Nielson, Werkhoven, Lorenz and others were running for office, the atmosphere was pretty tense back then too but they held a forum and it went off without anything degrading other than a certain talk show host who was laughing back at the studio at one of the candidates over an open mike. Other than that, each candidate handled themselves professionally and so did the audience. I haven’t seen the flyers that you mentioned so I can’t comment on them but I do remember the fake web site that you promoted on your show that was created by the first city administrator that was very degrading of three candidates comparing them to Hitler, KKK and a slum lord, yet they held a forum.
If I were running for or trying to keep my position I would not only welcome a forum I would have one even if I were the only candidate attending because if I had the best interest of the city in mind, I would gladly want to explain why I am the best candidate for the job and I would hope the rest of the candidates felt the same way and they would attend too.
On top of all the civic reasons I have listed in the past posts, it would sell newspapers and would have great ratings on the radio if aired. I believe it is not only a good business decision but the civic duty of the newspaper and/or radio to set up a forum. But it appears that I am a lone voice in the wilderness.

          • Ryan Cunningham

Will, forums have always been organized by other groups in the community, and we cover them. We do not organize them. The big, bad media is not to blame for this election having no forum. Had a forum been organized, we would have covered it, no questions asked. I think the four candidates, the civic groups, and most of the electorate are all on the same page. The issues have been hashed out, the voters will vote, and the world will go forward. So, yes, you’re a lone voice. You obviously are angry about a great many things, as are quite a few people that have commented on this site. The best way for you to resolve the issue is to go vote on Tuesday.

          • Anonymous

If most of the electorate are all on the same page why do candidates spend money on billboards, commercials and go door to door? It’s to get the undecided. I’m with Will on this one, there should be a forum. Your reasons for not having one are pretty weak. Maybe faithful is on to something.

          • Ryan Cunningham

We’re not here to save the world. We don’t organize candidate forums. To date, three candidates have requested talk time, and all have been accommodated. Should a fourth request be made, it will be accommodated also. That’s what we do. We do not stage forums. Never have. Call any of the groups that have organized them in the past, and ask the same question. I’d be interested to know why they didn’t organize a forum.

          • faithful

If a fourm is so important to you, organize one. Why is it Ross and Magnuson’s fault there is no forum? Why haven’t Werkhoven and Evenson initiated a forum? I am guessing they are afraid to answer questions when they can’t call someone “out of order”. I read the flyer in the Times Record as well, and as far as I’m concerned, that was a nail in the coffin to me. REALLY? YOU THINK THAT WAS MATURE? REALLY?
Sounds like it was a very mature person that sent that out. I don’t know that I would want Werkhoven and Evenson having any say in my city after that. I also seem to remember at one point over the summer that Werkhoven called into Ryan Cunningham on the air, made some sort of innapropriate comments and then hung up on Ryan and the listeners. “And that’s your mayor!” REALLY, BOB REALLY?’ I have tried to not blast Bob and Ken on any of my posts, but this is rediculous. You two are acting like 14 year old girls at this point. It is time the citizens of Valley City take a look at that flyer and REALLY see the true colors of the mayor and the commissioner. Bob has engineering experience, from 40 years ago?? Maybe 40 year old experience isn’t what we need anymore. Has there really been any decisioins made in the Devils Lake water problem that will effect Valley City? I was so hoping that Bob & Ken could be stand up citizens to represent this city. REALLY DIDN’T HAPPEN. DID IT? REALLY Its time for Mr Mayor and Mr Commissioner to but thier big boy panties on and GROW UP!!! REALLY NOW!!!!

          • GETALIFE

what was the last grade you attended in school?

          • faithful

I have been to college. Why?

          • Lori

People who have been to college do not hang with who you are supporting.

          • Maria

Faithful, you should really be concerned with what you say as people put you in the same catagory as Ross, Llyod, Bob and Brian. Don’t drag Dewey into this group. Just saying, girl to girl.

          • faithful

Dewey and Dean are friends of mine and I am proud to call them friends. I fully support Dewey and Dean and am not afraid to say so. I have know Dewey far longer than i have known Dean, and I am not “putting Dewey in the same catagory” of anyone. Besides the fact , my response with the REALLY’S is a comment to the flyer that was sent out in the paper. Very mature move on Werkhoven & Evenson’s part. Just saying, girl to girl.

          • Cindylane

WIll, the problem is you cannot debate with Narcasitic people. Look it up, then tell me it does not fit Ross.

          • GETALIFE

Thank you for coming on to comment. Personally,I think you look a lot of pleasure stirring the pot during the controversy over the summer. Between you an Nick Lee, I think you have yourselves to credit for much of what went on. You do a great job announcing local games, but as a commentator, I don’t know one person who will intentionally listen to you. If you stopped pandering to the disenfrancized loud mouths you’d get a bigger audience…but then lose advertising from a major car dealer, right?

          • Ryan Cunningham

This gave me a chuckle. I don’t know who Nick Lee even is, except that I’ve seen his name on the city commission’s agenda sheet from time to time. I would say that the parties involved, namely the former city administrator, had way more to do with this summer’s events than I did. And that disenfranchised loudmouths I speak to: I seem to remember those folks being more than just a little unhappy with me a few years ago, not to mention that my views on Measure #2 (eliminating property taxes) are completely opposite of theirs. Again, you can try to blame me for a bunch of problems, but the real blame falls on a lot of people who could have made a difference. Even if I weren’t here, you would have heard about it in the news, you would have read about it in the news, and the people that organized the recall would still have done that. I’d say the situation is no different with me here or not here.

          • GETALIFE

You are right! it is pretty funny. I don’t know if there is a “Nick Lee”. Nick was a mis-type, I was not intending to use full names. I stopped listening to local radio commentaries during the 2009 flood when everyone was being ordered to evacuate town and I heard a comment about pulling people over and doing “cavity searches” if they were on the road. I don’t know, that was just over the top to me. Still, from the ‘re-runs’ of your programs there is a whole lot of ‘stirring the pot’. I’ll stand by that comment.

          • Even Doen

Cunningham your talk with Ross today was well scripted. You may fool some. Lloyd on the other hand should have learned from Brian and not spoke. He hurts their cause and will soon learn again we really don’t want his help.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WRQQUXV5ITYRXVAQ2OLNM4OGNI Gary

I also remember hearing the “warm” welcome a lady got when she called in to support the city administrator.
I vote scripted, or at least sitting on the same side of the desk to enhance the team effort.

          • concernedinvc

or the candidate’s brother sitting across the desk with a shot gun perhaps?

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WRQQUXV5ITYRXVAQ2OLNM4OGNI Gary

After listening this afternoon I am wondering if the voice of K.O.V.C = the voice of R.Y.A.N. = the voice of R.O.S.S. ???

          • faithful

Ryan was approached by Ross and Magnuson. Ryan didn’t ask them to come on his show. If Evenson and Werkhoven want to be on Ryan’s show, I am sure he would have them.

          • Ryan Cunningham

Gary obviously quit listening. Ken was given the same chance later in the show. Also, as far as a “scripted” show, all three candidates were handled the same. I asked them in advance what they wanted to highlight, then they were willing to let me ask questions unscreened, as in, they had no idea what I was going to ask. I don’t really care who believes it, it is the truth. Thanks for listening.

        • Sallym

I just wanna see Lloyd get tazed.

    • Ilovethiscity

WIll (Rorey) The Transparency question. If you watch the video, this is Ross’s soon the be X son-in-law. He certainly has good reason to leave the Ross family. However at that time did support “family” right or wrong. I dare you to ask him today, I think you would get a different answer as he know nows the Ross family quite a bit better.

    • Ilovethiscity

      WIll (Rorey)
      P.S.
Pay your taxes like the rest of us.

      • Will

That’s interesting, are you looking in my windows? I have them on my counter right now. Thanks for the reminder but I’ll get them in on time, don’t worry. What does that have to do with the election on the 24th?

    • Rhonda

      Concernedinvc,
Instead of the kid who is leaving the Ross family picture on here. Can you get the picture of Lloyd holding the picture of his formal wardrobe holding the sign with Ross about to taze him?

    For Positive Change?

    • faithful

Regards to your last comment: The bright yellow flyer in the newspaper? REALLY? YOU THINK WAS A GOOD MOVE? REALLY? Really an adult move!! WOW!!

      • Lloyf

Faithful, I can detect you are a bit angry. You will be more angry Tuesday evening!

        • faithful

I am a bit angry with the flyer and the fact that it was distributed. You cannot tell me that Werkhoven and Evenson felt threatened bye Dean and felt they had to distriburte that flyer? That is a real grownup act. All through this, Dean has promised a positive campaign. I feel that was a desperate move on behalf of Werkhoven. Does anyone remember this past summer when Werkhoven brought sand bags and a shovel into Cunningham? Someone should take a nail & hammer to Werkhoven bercause he could have just nailed his coffin shut with that move.

          • Sisteragnus

            Faithful,
Do you call 18 counts of insubordation, harrassmen, intimidation, etc.etc, etc etc…….. running a clean police department? How about one lie after another on the radio….is this a CLEAN CAMPAIGN?

          • faithful

Have you heard Dean badmouthing Evenson & Werkhoven?

          • Lsdavis624

He did his badmouthing all through the summer to deflect attention from the 18 counts of improper conduct.

          • Sisteragnus

Absolutely, he did not respect them as Chief of Police. Is that not enough? Now he even has a person with your inteligence fooled……

          • Lucas

Faithful, Did you see one of Deans representatives Bob Drake on the news tonight? That was awesome representation. What a team he has in his corner. How could anyone outsmart those guys. I can’t wait until this town is called Rossville.

          • concernedinvc

The truth shall set you free, faithful. The truth in that flyer is only a mirror to the true character of the man himself.

          • Ilovethiscity

Faithful, We will be there to support you in the end.You too are a citizen of VC who we care about. One favor you could do us? Can you find out how we can join CCI because they will not answer us.

          • Bobbyjo

Don’t be angry Faithful. Ross has Drake, Nelson and Mindt in his corner. How could anyone out do that winning team?

  • Chicagoland

I moved from VC over 20 years ago to a place where corruption and “spin” is everyday occurrence. I have always been proud of my roots and brag about your honesty and morals. I have been following the events in Valley City and am astounded that Dean Ross (who I have known, liked and trusted in the past) can look the people of Valley City in the eye much less run for Mayor. I don’t live there and only know what I get from the media, what I get is 1. Investigated for unaccounted for money. 2.Gets caught but comes up with the money.(In his PD world if I rob a bank but give up the money after I am caught is that ok?) 3. Won’t turn over the books. 4. Brother heads recall election to take off heat.(Abuses the open meeting agenda at City Commission Meetings then Dean wants to run on the platform he will listen.) 5. Says he can’t work with city leadership but the truth will come out in the end. 6. Resigns to end investigation from city.(Why not let truth come out?) 7. More cash found in personal safe at PD.(Wonder if anymore is out there?) 8. His “brothers in arms at BCI” can find no criminal wrong doing only inappropriate use of funds. (This is now being advertised as completely innocent)9. Now running for Mayor (and work with the people he said he can’t work with before) on grounds of honesty and integrity. All I can say to you is welcome to the world I know and FOOL ME ONCE………………………………

    • VCLand

Let’s see here, you pretty 2 faced. 1st you say that you have known and liked, then you blast him,,,so which is it??? Like we can trust your word?!?! 1. yes. 2. He told them it was there. 3. The books were no accounts controlled by the city(would you turn over your business or personal books to them when it is none of their business, if they were city accounts it would have been different). 4. His brother does not head the recall, that is Leroy Neubauer. 5. Could you work with a Dictator? That,s right,,,there is no “working with” under a dictatorship. 6. He resigned because the city came to him, not him to the city, the city knew they were sunk. 7. More cas he told them many months before was there. 8. Judge also said he is innocent and and city disregarded that TWICE. 9. After elected as Mayor he won’t have to work with those people, think about it,,, they will have been voted out and the other one ran down south cowardly abandoning his faithful supporters, so no he won’t have to work with them. Werchhoven turned on EVERYTHING he campaigned on everything!! Sounds like you can be fooled several times.

      • Will

VCLand don’t be too hard on Chicagoland he/she did admit that “I don’t live there and only know what I get from the media”. Anyone who solely relies on the media for their information is only getting a part of the info they need to make an informed decision.

To anyone who cares to chime in, if a candidate forum was held, what are some of the questions that you’d like asked?

        • VCLand

Well the question has been asked of Magnuson what would you do different than Evenson? That should be an easy one, STAY sober longer than 2 pm and you got it made! lol

          • Brian M

Lloyd, Can’t wait to see you screaming and holding up signs on the replay channel again asking if Ross is going to taze you! That was awesome! I would pay money to see that again…….

          • Linda

Lloyd, no one cares about CCI’s puppet Magneson.

          • faithful

Magnuson isn’t a member of CCI. But so what if he was?

          • Lloyd

Faithful are we telling just a tiny bit lie?

          • faithful

Nope. I know that Dewey isnot a member of CCI. You will only believe what you want. Call Dewey and ask him

        • Maria

          WIll,
I would like to ask Ross why he is using Brian, Lloyd and CCI. I would like to ask him why two years ago he did not respect his supervisors. I would like to ask him why he ran his department by intimidation. I would like to ask him about his insoboardination. I would like to ask him about the 18 counts against him and why he thinks none of them are true. I would like to ask him why at one time he spoke out clearly against the city administrator position and today he spoke for it. I would like to ask him what kind of man after going through this wants to work with all the people he spoke against. Why he has his lawyer still. And on and on and on.

      • GETALIFE

Whhhhaaaatt? Boy, we know where you got your facts. Whew!

        • VCLand

Yes they are facts, mostly from the reports of the investigations, not the falsies out of your head.

          • Lloyd

I just want the positive change. I just want the town to be re-named Rossville so we can move forward. I want a bust of Ross in bronze at every exit as you come into town and one in Veterans Memorial Park.

        • faithful

Yup……the local newspaper is where you get yours??

          • Brian

            Faithful,
What are your thoughts on Dr. Oberlandulfs comments on Narcassism? It sure fits does it not?

          • faithful

            For…….?

          • faithful

Everyone in this conversation is a bit narcassistic. Or the entire conversation would not be taking place. I am sure you are aware that I am a Ross/Magnuson supporter. And if you want to call me a narcassist, more pwer to you. At least I don’t stoop to name calling and other tactics. ;-)

      • Dr. J H O

        Dear VCLand.
It is time some of the people understand the word Narcissistic and put one and one together. I have copied the definition for you which is easy reading. This should help you understand the personality/sickness that the candidate for mayor posesses.

This was know by many and examined for at least 3-years prior to taking action.

        Definition
        By Mayo Clinic staff

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Narcissistic personality disorder is one of several types of personality disorders. Personality disorders are conditions in which people have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in relationships and in other areas of their life, such as work or school.

Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered around psychotherapy.

I am sure you now have a better understanding.

        Sincerest regards,

        Dr. Jabob H. Oberlandulf

        • GETALIFE

Dr JHO can you also enlighten the readers on the sociopathic personality. I do believe you would agree that the CCI members fit that discription quite well, along with Mr Ross

          • DrJHO

Certainly Getalife one must agree with you in the medical field. One also hates to say to much as I feel it puts the residents in VC at risk of danger. People like that can fly off the deep end suddenly and until they do there is nothing the law can do about it.

            Dr Jabob H. Oberlandulf

      • Camu

        VCLand.
Ever notice no one cares about the puppet Magneson. Speaking of did you hear Ross lie today? He said he was not running on the same page as Magneson. Then corrected himself with his smooth suavey style and said, oh I guess we do have flyers together. Then he said , I told Dewey that I (Ross) may drag his votes down. I got news for ya, CCI will drag all your votes down. You can’t depend on them. Well the dream team was all eating at Foss the other day at lunch. Ross, Swenson, Bjerke and Magneson.

        • Harold

What does CCI have to do with this? They have had no part in this.

          • Lloyd

Can anyone come to a CCI meeting Lloyd? Or is this some secret club? Please answer.

          • DebbieR

Lloyd, how do I sign up to be a member of CCI. A lot of my friends and myself would like to be a part of a team that helps the city and does good things for it. Please let us know when and where the meeting are so we may attend. Or is this some other type of organization that only allows a specific type of person in?

          • GETALIFE

dear debbie R…the ‘specific type of person’ in order to join CCI is #1. MALE. So I guess you’d have to joing the CCI Ladies Auxiliary.

          • DebbieR

            Dear GETALIFE,
I really did’t want Dean to know. But we should start a ladies CCI Auxiliary. Wonder if Brian would help us get started.

          • Lizm

            Lloyd,
How do you think Dean feels with you on in his corner? He also knows every time you run or support someone you lose. So if you truly were a thinking man. You would help support the person you really want to lose. Oh well, you will I am sure be busy trying to find illegal things people did once this is over because it sure must be illegal activities that made you lose. Could’nt be anything else…..

          • Kenny

Why will neither Brian or Lloyd answer the question on who can join CCI? This must be some kind of group.

          • convernedinvc

It’s not a group, it’s a posse. Larry, Ronald, Lloyd, Leroy, Robert, Brian and some out-if-towners. They meet regularily to plot the overthrow of local government.

          • Mary

Is this why they will not answer. The work Posse scares me. I have seen pictures of some of them in white cloaks. That scares me also.

  • Ilovethiscity

Has anyone asked Ross’s old police officers how they now feel. They feel relieved he is gone. Exept for one. Let this be somewhat of a lesson to the Ross believers.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WRQQUXV5ITYRXVAQ2OLNM4OGNI Gary

Ross’s radio ad : wants to be part of the team ? What’s changed ? There is no I in Team but now there is a R O S S in Team ??? Pretty sure your sheriff is part of the team in Valley City, for sure the city administrator is and left the position after trying to work with Ross ?

    • Harold

I have personally spoken with 5 of them and they do not feel that way at all. You people really need to get these voices out of your head.

      • Deb R

        Lloyd,
You know Dean is using you don’t you. How about your X buddy Werkhoven, or your X buddy Wager? If Ross was to luck out and get elected, how long would it take for him to be your X buddy? Trust me Lloyd I know Dean very very well.

      • BrianM

First of all Mr. Replay channel star. No one believes you. Second if Ross does get Mayor and you do your normal screaming he will taze you. And we will laugh.

      • Dean

You know whats the most fun about this whole thing Lloyd? Playing with you and wondering how your are preparing for your, your 3rd, 4th……..loss. Then wondering what you mind in going to come up with next. I just smile and laugh. Thanks Lloyd.

      • Littlebrian

So Lloyd, will someone from CCI please tell us how we can join and come to meetings? There is something fishy about you not anwsering. Is this a club similar to others in history???????

  • Forpitysake

This reminds me of the typical abused wife or abused child syndrome, sound familiar?
Abused:“He bit me, scratched me and pushed me down the hill”
Abuser: “Not me. You bit yourself and tripped and fell.”
Abused: “No, you hurt me and it was wrong”
    Abuser: “I really love you.”
Abused: “What you did was wrong”
Abuser: “Stop your crying, you’re such a baby. All that is history, it was way back to yesterday. Why can’t you just forgive and forget. I never meant to do anything that hurt you. Shut up now or you’re going to make me really angry”

    • Jim

I know, this is terrible, another Ross lie, he wants to run a clean campaign, yet he has one of his dogs Lloyd running just the opposit. One word out one side of his mouth and another out the other side…… At least Ross got Brian to be quiet.

      • faithful

Ross did not ask Lloyd to speak for him. Lloyd has an opinion of his own and is entitled to voice it just as much as anyone else. Even you.

        • Tommy

I believe you Faithful. Those other guys are mean. I don’t know how they can look themselves in the mirror. Bad bad I say.

  • Lloyd

I love this City, cry cry, I just did not get along with others.

    • convernedinvc

I’m SO disapointed in with the negative flyer. I hold true to my principles no matter what. …ya right. You have to have principles BEFORE you can keep them, Sir. Let’s see how you act with you find out you’ve lost after spending all that money on green stuff

    Narcissistic Personality Disorder
    By Psych Central Staff
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of grandiosity (either in fantasy or actual behavior), an overwhelming need for admiration, and usually a complete lack of empathy toward others. People with this disorder often believe they are of primary importance in everybody’s life or to anyone they meet. While this pattern of behavior may be appropriate for a king in 16th Century England, it is generally considered inappropriate for most ordinary people today.

People with narcissistic personality disorder often display snobbish, disdainful, or patronizing attitudes. For example, an individual with this disorder may complain about a clumsy waiter’s “rudeness” or “stupidity” or conclude a medical evaluation with a condescending evaluation of the physician.

In laypeople terms, someone with this disorder may be described simply as a “narcissist” or as someone with “narcissism.” Both of these terms generally refer to someone with narcissistic personality disorder.

    Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder
In order for a person to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) they must meet five or more of the following symptoms:

•Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
•Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
•Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
    •Requires excessive admiration
•Has a very strong sense of entitlement, e.g., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
•Is exploitative of others, e.g., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
•Lacks empathy, e.g., is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
•Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
•Regularly shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes
As with all personality disorders, the person must be at least 18 years old before they can be diagnosed with it.

    • GETALIFE

lloyd, leroy, brian, rd…….yup. dean, steve,ds?…..yup. huuuuuum

      • Maria

        Dear Dr. Hendricsen,
I have read your post. Then the other day I saw Ross had picture in the paper. I think his picture should be in the Webster Dictionary under the word Narcissistic. I have also had an opportunity to visit with some of the VC Police officers. They are very concerned for their jobs if Ross gets elected. They know that Swenson will be moved to chief and Ross will make their lives miserable. Why Dr. Hendricsen would a man be so vendictive? Why would a man like Ross even consider putting the “City He Loves” through this termoil?

        • Dr. Hendricsen

          Maria,
Yes I understand your frustration. I see he even wears his picture on his T-shirt. Trust me when I tell you that you are not alone in your feelings. There are several who have visited my office with your concerns. As medical professionals, we can recommend testing for specific idividuals should we notice an iregularity. Things will be fine.
          Dr. Hendrisen

  • Dd

I’m ready for some positive change!!

    • Nomail

Like the change in your pocket ? Can you hear the coins jingling ?

    • faithful

      Me too!!!

  • Brian

OMG the man even has his own picture on his t-shirt and wares it. Who ever is writing about Narcissism is 100 percent correct! This Ross guy is just a wee bit high on himself.

    • faithful

      Get over it!!

    • Donna

Just so you know his dogs name was “Rossco”.

  • DeanR

Shame on all of you for picking on Lloyd. You all know he cannot play on your level and you should all apologize.

  • Lloyd

    Narcasistic:

  • lovemytown

If Dean wants POSITIVE change for Valley City, why didn’t he just ride off into the sunset with his retirement. All that is going to happen if he is elected is further drive wedge in between the people of this town. Move forward? There will always be a stigma attached if he is mayor.

  • Dd

I called Brian this summer wanting a sign for my yard. He told be if I wanted I could come to his meetings. I had not ever met or spoken with him before that. None of the charges were proved against Ross. According to the settlement I didn’t think anyone was supposed to talk about it. Magnuson is a strong candidate.

  • GETALIFE

Now remember. Don’t say/type/think any four letter words on the 24th. Especiallty those starting with the letter “V”. Our CCI members are eagle-eyed for any infractions, so take down any yellow signs or any that mention our Mayor or Commissioner. [ You can put those signs back up on the 25th, If you'd like, and you can go back to saying any four-letter-word of your choice.]. Don’t be surprised if those CCI make up a few infractions just to keep annoying “we the citizens’. Thank you for your encouragement.

    • LittleTommy

      Dear GETALIFE,

So what you are saying is, it is OK if Drake propertys continue with the signs as in the administrator vote? But not the good guys? I don’t get it. What is fair is fair. What about Lloyd putting signs in his boulevard on trees? Why can Lloyd get by wity it? Is it because he only does us good?

      • faithful

Lloyd’s signs were not on his boulevard.

        • GETALIFE

faithful, oh yes they were. Then hammered into boulevard [city] trees.

          • Neutral

I drive by said mentioned property and ‘NO’ they are not in the boulevard – they are on the trees behind the sidewalk, also known to be behind the property corner pins, which is the owners property….I suggest you stop spreading false information….also if you claim they were in the boulevard, why didn’t you file a complaint with the city to have them removed (because you know they weren’t and it would’ve made you look like an idiot!!!!)

  • Deb

    Rest easy VCPD department!

  • Drakester41

This is the first time I have been on this blog and to tell the truth I am amazed at how stupied
some of you are! The truth means nothing to you. For example Mr.Magnuson is not a member of CCI and has never been to a CCI meeting. You have no respect for anyone or anything whatever crap your sick mind comes up with you put down in this blog. Llyod Nelson
is a Command Sargent Major he has been to war for his country ! What have you done for your community, have you been involved in your city government ? Have you done anything
for Valley City? Other than throwing your opinion around this blog with anonymous names
so no one can defend themselves . Llyod has stood up at commission meetings and argued
his point of view his ideas and how he feels about things in front of everyone for all to see
Have any of you done that ? I would say No because people like some of you have no honor
or personal integrity. You care for nothing except the drama you can stir up from each other
You feed off each others ignorance to point of no one having the ability to see the truth in anything or anyone. You all seem to be so concerned with CCI let me set you straight
on a few things the meetings are every Tuesday at 7:00 at Iron Stallion everyone is welcome that has an honest opinion and something to contribute to the group and our community. To be honest
there is maybe 3 or 4 of you on this blog that would last at CCI the rest of you are just not CCI
material by that I mean you have no center no foundation that holds you to a set of values that mean anything and I no this by what you are saying and your comments about people and situations that you are writing about that have no facts to them just a bunch of BS.
I would much rather hang out with people at CCI than anyone at city hall ! You no why at CCI I know that everyone has an opinion and everyones opinion matters. Everyone gets a chance to speak without fear of being told to set down and shut up. At CCI you better know what you are talking about because someone is going to make you prove what you are saying. That does not happen at city hall now does it John Wagar can lie till the cows come home and
most of you on this blog could care less because you are just like him in so many ways
you lie your dishonest and you are cowards. Lets see your real names on your opinions
on this blog lets see you show up at a CCI meeting lets see you show up at a city hall meeting ,stand there and complain about something you do not like. Lets see you do anything other than complain about someone else! I am so glad that I came on this blog
I have new hope for CCI I was the president of CCI for several years and am proud to say that
because I believe in what CCI stands for and I trust the memebrs of CCI. So for most of you
on this blog I say it must suck to be you, and the rest of you I say sorry to vent this way but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.One other thing if you are going to comment on what I have said here have some respect for yourself and put your name to it other wise do not
bother commenting.Just so you know I mispelled some words and my punctuation sucks.
