(NewsDakota.com) In one of the best opportunities presented to them so far this season, the Oakes High School boys basketball team was unable to secure its first District 1 victory as Fairmont-Campbell-Tintah held off the Tornadoes 60-56 on Friday night in Oakes.

The Rebels earned their first victory in district play due in large part to 20 pints from D”Angelo Burns, 17 points from Conner Meyer and 15 from Taylor Campbell. In addition, FCT was solid from the free throw line, going 23 for 30 at the charity stripe.

Oakes had their chances, but foul trouble and lack of field goal percentage did not help their cause. The Tornadoes were within two several times, but unable to close the deal. Simon Maddock had a team high 22 points, coming back in the second half after suffering a right leg cramp. Tanner Zetocha, who fouled out toward the end of the game had 13.

Next up for Oakes (1-11 0-5 District 1) is by far their most difficult test of the season, as they go to LaMoure to take on the undefeated Loboes as part of a double header with the girls team. Coverage can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com, with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
