CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–A slip-up in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) preseason tournament did not cost the Viking men in the national rankings.

Valley City State moved up one spot to 19th in this week’s NAIA Division II mens basketball poll.

The Vikings are 17-6 after a weekend split, losing at home to Mayville State 67-59, then defeating Dickinson State 71-67.  The Vikings were missing their leading scorer, Sekani Milligan (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, FL) for both games.

Valley City State remained number two in the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) rankings this week, with Jamestown College taking the top ranking in the independent poll.

The Viking women face Dakota State Wednesday night at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse.  Both teams travel to Dickinson State Saturday.
