CITY (NewsDakota.com)–After a long layoff, the Hi-Liner basketball teams will look to take advantage of two-point opportunities in Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) play tonight.
The Hi-Liner girls travel to Grand Forks Central to face the Knights, while the boys will host the Knights at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
Valley City has not had a game in either boys or girls play since last Tuesday, and the girls have not played since January 20th. The girls were beaten by #2 West Fargo 69-56 at West Fargo in their last game, while the boys topped Lisbon 57-45 in their last contest.
The boys are in desperate need of a win, and the Knights offer them a big opportunity tonight. A win would push Valley City to 2-7 in EDC play, which would leapfrog the Hi-Liners over three teams to seventh place in the league standings.
Grand Forks Central broke a long losing streak with two big wins, knocking off Fargo North for the second time, then topping Wahpeton by 12 points. They were tipped by West Fargo 56-52 in their last matchup. The Knights are 4-9 overall, 3-8 in EDC play, currently in seventh place.
The girls game tonight will be a battle right in the middle of the EDC standings tonight. Valley City is 3-3 in league play, with Central 5-6. The two-point swing in the standings will make a sizable impact on the league.
The Knights won two straight recently, and both by big margins. They routed Fargo North 63-38, then stopped Wahpeton 68-51 on the road. They were topped by West Fargo 72-60 in their last matchup.
Both games tip off tonight at 7:30 p.m. The boys matchup will be heard on KOVC-AM 1490 with a pregame start at 7:10 p.m.
