CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking women suffered a third straight loss while the Viking men avenged an earlier loss as the teams hosted Mayville State Saturday.

Mayville State hit 11 three-point shots and ran by the Vikings 83-69 in the womens game at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse. The Viking men then put four players in double figures and fought past another lopsided foul shot game for a 73-48 win in the night cap.

Five Viking women scored in double figures, led by Alyssa Hummel’s (Jr., West Fargo, ND) 20 points, but the Vikings could not stop a white-hot Comet shooting performance that finished 11-22 from beyond the arc. Hailey Longtin (So., Walhalla, ND) led the Comets with 23 points.

In mens play, the Vikings outlasted the Comets after Mayville State again received generous treatment in Valley City, shooting 20-29 from the foul line. They shot 34-44 in a 67-59 win over the Vikings in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) tipoff tournament.

The difference was that Sekani Milligan (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, FL), the leading scorer among independent players nationwide, did not play against the Comets the first time, and he did Saturday, scoring 22 points without the benefit of a single foul shot.

John Raquel (Jr., Hawthorne, CA) drained 11, with Sylvester Walker (Sr., St. Paul, MN) and Jason Perkins (Fr., Shakopee, MN) each scoring 10. The Viking defense held Mayville State to just 12 field goals all night.

The Viking women fall to 15-12, while the men improve to 20-6. Each team will host Jamestown College Wednesday night.
