(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team and Lisbon High battled in an ugly game for both teams on Friday night, and when the dust settled, it was the Broncos coming out on top 61-58 to end the Tornadoes chances at a District 1 regular season championship.

The lead changed hands several times, but Oakes was clearly despondent after Nicole Warren had to leave the game for a good part of the second half due to foul troubles. After Warren’s return, Oakes found their legs, and Warren put up a shot from half court at the end of regulation, but it hit the back iron and bounced out.

“It was an ugly game tonight.” said Oakes High School girls basketball coach Caitlyn Wojahn. “We were a little sluggish out of the game, but finished strong for the most part. We just weren’t able to capitalize on key opportunities.”

Oakes was lead by Warren with 19 points, Karlie Kuntuson had 16.

With the loss, Oakes ends the regular season at 11-8 and 4-2 in District 1. They will be either the #2 or #3 seed for the District 1 girls basketball tournament in two weeks, and will host a first round game either Thursday February 23, or Friday February 24.
