CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner boys basketball team was eliminated from contention for hosting a play-in game with a 71-66 loss at home to the Fargo North Spartans Friday night.

The game was worth two Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) points. North moves to 5-10 in league play, while the Hi-Liners drop to 0-14.

With North at five league points, Central at six, all other teams but Devils Lake at seven or more, and the Hi-Liners at none and with only four more to play for, Valley City can finish no higher than ninth in the league standings, meaning they will be one of two teams in the 10-team league that will travel in the play-in round.

The Hi-Liners play Devils Lake for two league points on February 16th. Valley City would have to win that game, win one more, and get help from Wahpeton, Fargo South, and Grand Forks Central to finish ninth. Should they lose to Devils Lake, or should they win less than two more league games, the Hi-Liners will be 10th.

Valley City’s other remaining games are at home with Wahpeton on Tuesday and at Fargo Shanley on February 21st.
