Hess, 90, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Ave Marie Village, Jamestown.

Laverne Marie Folk was born January 23, 1922, in Jamestown, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ann (Downey) Folk. She attended St. John’s Academy through the sixth grade, then attended Jamestown High School and was active in athletics and graduated in 1942.  Marie worked in the shipyards in Tacoma, WA during WWII.  Marie married Kenneth George Hess on July 11, 1941 at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown.  They made their home in Jamestown and Marie worked as a bookkeeper for Jamestown Grocery, then as a color artist for King Studio for many years.  They moved to Fargo, ND in 1975 and Marie worked security for Hector International Airport until she retired.  They returned to Jamestown in 2005.

Marie enjoyed gardening and canning, golfing, bowling, cooking and baking, walking at West Acres Mall and having coffee with friends, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of St. James Basilica and the St. James Tabernacle.

Marie is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Jamestown; four daughters, Colleen Hess, Devils Lake, ND, Kathy (Gary) Klundt, Jamestown, Deborah (Donald) Hoffman, Devils Lake, Diana (Ross) Weber, LaMoure, ND; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Pat (Dolly) Folk, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marge Wilmart and Lorraine; and one brother, Frank Folk, Jr.

Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Vigil: 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
