CITY (KFGO NEWS) A mishap involving a pair of handcuffs has sparked a federal lawsuit against Valley City and two police officers.

Cheryl Schultz claims she suffered permanent injuries when she was handcuffed after being arrested for DUI in 2009. One of the handcuffs got stuck and police unsuccessfully tried two pairs of bolt cutters to remove it. The cuff was finally taken off with an electric grinder but not without causing second-degree burns.

Schultz is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. Her attorney Mark Blumer and Valley City Attorney Russ Myhre are declining comment.
