service for Harley Schnabel, 79, of Wishek will be 10:30 am, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley, ND.  The Rev. Sharon Korsmo will officiate.  

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home.      

Harley died Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Ashley Medical Center.       

Harley Schnabel, son of John F. and Lydia (Guthmiller) Schnabel was born July 11, 1932 on the family homestead 17 miles south of Ashley in McPherson County, SD.  This is where he grew up while attending country school.  He worked on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Pfeifle on December 12, 1954 in Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley.  They made their home on his family farm.  They were general farmers raising small grains and livestock.  In the early 1960’s, he went south for a couple of years custom combining.  In 1968 they purchased a farm northwest of Ashley, adding two more farms over their farming career.  In the fall of 2008 they retired and on December 1, 2008 they moved to Wishek following their farm retirement sale. 

Harley enjoyed playing pool and pinochle.  He loved being with people and socializing.  When he was younger, he and Virginia loved going to dances.        

Harley attended Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and was a member of Wishek Eagles Club and Wishek Wildlife Club.   

Harley is survived by this wife, Virginia, two sons, Ricky Schnabel of Selfridge, ND and Garrett (Carol) Schnabel of Valley City, ND, three daughters, Juanita (Ronnie) Feil of Oakes, ND, Paula (Ron) Kleinsasser of Dickinson, ND and Maria (Kurt) Reidman of Dazey, ND, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

His parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.Honorary Casketbearers will be Harley’s grandchildren, Jackie Feil, Jamie Feil, Sean Kleinsasser, Ethan Kleinsasser, Corey Kleinsasser, Madison Reidman, Amanda Reidman, Kennedy Reidman and Scott Schnabel.

Casketbearers will be Dale Meidinger, Brandon Meidinger, Kevin Schnabel, Lloyd Dais, Michael Pfeifle and Troy Walth.

The organist will be Steve Glaesmann.
