Frances was born February 23, 1910 in Chase Lake Township, near Medina, ND, the daughter of Charles and Winifred (Smith) Rawson. Frances, most often known as “Frank”, lived and attended country school except grades 7 and 8, when she attended school in Pettibone. Frank graduated in 1928 from Medina High School and went on to Valley City State College and applied for a country school in Iosco School District. She also taught in Peterson School District and several different schools in Stutsman County.
On June 22, 1933 Frank and Ben Hoersch were married by his father, Rev. Henry Hoersch in Fredonia, ND at their home. Both Ben and Frank continued teaching in the Medina area until 1940. They later bought the Texaco Station and later farmed some land of his father’s farm north of Medina. With five children, Frank started teaching again after the renewal of her teacher’s certificate at Valley City State College. Her last year of teaching, before retiring, was at Valley Springs School District in 1960.
They began spending winters in Arizona to enjoy their retirement with family and friends. Ben passed away in September of 1974. Frank remained living at her home and enjoyed her faithful attendance at English Lutheran Church, participated in the Medina Senior Citizens, the Medina Homemakers, and a birthday club. During her last 20 years in Medina, Frank was known to gather friends for an assortment of table top games and card games. Frank moved to Jamestown and spent her last 10 years at Roseadele and Eventide at Hi-Acres.
Frank is survived by four children, David (Roxy) Hoersch, Trinity, FL; Cara Anderson, Vancouver, WA; Dennis (Carol) Hoersch, Kennewick, WA; Brenda (Gene) Guthmiller, Medina, ND; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
