CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The home opener of Viking baseball landed with a thud Saturday.

The Vikings dropped games with Jamestown College and Dickinson State, losing to the Jimmies 8-6 and the Bluehawks 5-2 at Charlie Brown Memorial Baseball Field.

The day started wildly, with the Vikings and Jimmies combining for seven first-inning runs.  The Jimmies carried a one-run after an inning, saw the Vikings tie the game in the fifth, then scored three in the sixth to turn the Vikings away.

Ronnie Blagg (Jr., La Puente, CA) was beat around in his start for the Vikings, giving up four hits and four runs, three earned, including a two-run homer in the opening inning.  Colin Waldner (Jr., Altona, MB) took the loss in relief, working 4.1 innings, allowing a run on five hits.  Brendan Scherer (Jr., Winnipeg, MB) led the Viking offense with two hits in three trips, driving in two runs.

The Vikings could find no offense in game two, scratching out a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh in a 5-2 loss to the Bluehawks.

Ryan Shaw (Jr., Cardale, MB) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits through 4.2 innings of work.  Scott Stephenson (Jr., Ontario, CA) was 2-3 at the plate, with both hits doubles, and and RBI, to lead the Viking offense.

The Vikings fall to 7-15 overall, and face Dickinson State Sunday at 1:00 p.m., then the Jimmies to follow, in a doubleheader at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown.
