(NewsDakota.com)- Monday’s rain couldn’t keep the Jimmies off the field on what turned into a beautiful Tuesday afternoon for baseball yesterday at Jack Brown Stadium. Jamestown College welcomed Dakota Wesleyan to town for two seven-inning games.

The Jimmies found themselves on the right side of the scoreboard with a 5-4 win in Game 1 and the bats came alive in Game 2 for a 12-5 victory.

Spencer Flaten’s three-run homer in the 4th inning turned out to be just enough for a Game 1 conquest. Dakota Wesleyan had just trimmed the lead in half in the top of the fourth with a solo HR, when Flaten ripped it out of the park.

The Tigers would add one more in the 5th on a solo HR to lead off the inning, before chasing starter Ben Watkins after five.

DWU got two runs off of Jimmie reliever Zach Mendiola in the 6th inning. Nick Smart then came on to try to get the last six outs of the game.

Smart loaded the bases in the 7th with no one out, before retiring the final three hitter to preserve a 5-4 win.

The Tigers struck first following a Nico Moreno error, Erik Nockleby hit a two-run bomb to give DWU a 2-0.

Jamestown College used a 7-run 3rd inning to take control of the game. Moreno responded after the error and hit his first of two HRs, a three-run shot that followed a Mitch Stevens tw0-run double.

The Jimmies added four in the sixth, after Moreno’s solo shot in the 5th.

Blake Stewart started for JC and picked up the win going four innings. The two runs he gave up were both unearned.

Jamestown College improves to 18-11-1 with the pair of victories.
