CITY   (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking softball team had a disappointing finish to their weekend with Dickinson State.

After dropping the first two games without a run, the Vikings were shut out again, dropping the first game of a Friday doubleheader 5-0, before falling 8-7 in the nightcap.

The losses drop the Vikings to 0-6 in Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) play, and below .500 overall at 14-15.

Valley City State managed just four hits in the opening game, and committed four errors, giving up three unearned runs.  Katie McBride (Sr., Grand Rapids, MN) took the loss, working seven innings, surrendering two earned on seven hits, striking out one.

Two seventh-inning runs cut a Blue Hawk lead to one, but the Vikings would get no closer in an 8-7 loss in the second game.  Jane Pettit (Sr., Rushford, MN) had three hits and drove in a run, and Emma Nelson (Sr., Grand Rapids, MN) added a pair of hits.

Jen Shadlock (Sr., Brandon, MB) took the loss, allowing 10 hits and six runs in 4.2 innings of work.

The Vikings have now lost six straight games.  They continue their season at Minot State Wednesday.
