(NewsDakota.com) Two out hits win ball games.

Doing it twice on your 18th birthday; that’s even sweeter.

Tyler Thielges will certainly not forget the day he legally entered adulthood. The senior came up with two big time swings of the bat to help the LaMoure-Litchville/Marion baseball team win their third Region I game in a row; this time over the Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page Spartans 6-5 in 9 innings on Tuesday night in LLM’s home opener in Region I play.

Thielges hit a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings, then won the game in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single, also with two outs.

It wasn’t pretty up to that point, as the Loboes allowed four Spartan runs to score on two hits, three errors and a wild pitch in the fifth inning, but Thielges and his squad found some rally magic very late in the game.

“I was 0-3 at the plate going up to (the seventh inning at bat), and I really wanted another shot, and I just got to thank God.” said Thielges. “It was an 2-0 count, and I knew a strike was coming, and I just jumped on that pitch.”

Thielges credited his teammate Kenny Hodem for the chance to win it in the ninth.

“Kenny had a nice hit to get on, and then a wild pitch to put him on second. Coach (Haugen) put me in the three hole for a reason, and I knew I had to get him home.” said Thielges. “It was an inside pitch, and I barley got my hands through it, and….Kenny’s fast!”

Jared Meiklejohn was the winning pitcher with a perfect 9th inning in relief of Tanner Carlson for the Loboes, who have now won three in a row in Region I competition after starting the season 0-2. LMM is now third in the standings, while FSHP is now 2-3 and drops to fourth out of the seven teams in Region I.

Another home game awaits LLM, as they host the Northern Cass Jaguars on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., and coverage starts at 4:45 on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com.
