CITY (NewsDakota.com) A proposal by First Community Credit Union that would construct a new bank in a downtown Valley City parking lot was discussed at a city Finance meeting on Monday.

FCCU East Region Vice President Francis Heitkamp said pending city approval to purchase the lot the new building would be identical to the one in Wahpeton.

He says the company would sell the current facility on 4th street northeast after the new building is finished.

Heitkamp said the company is prepared to start construction as soon as possible pending city approval.

The value of the city owned parking lot is estimated at $55,000 along 2nd avenue and 4th street northeast in Valley City according to city assessor Nick Lee. U-S postal and city public works drop boxes may have to be moved if the plan it approved.

City Commissioner Jon Wagar said it’s an exciting proposal that will only benefit downtown and the city of Valley City.
