(NewsDakota.com) North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple has set aside Community Development Block Grant funds to be used for infrastructure improvements in Valley City and Cooperstown due to threats from the rising Sheyenne River.

In Valley City, slightly more than $500-thousand dollars will be used for construction upgrades to protect the city sanitary sewer and storm sewer system failure from river bank erosion. The project will construct a wall in Valley City to hold sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems in place, providing long-term protection from river bank erosion.

In Cooperstown, $250,000 will be used for construction upgrades to relocate the city water supply wells. The project will ensure the city can keep a reliable source of drinking water and maintain city wells during flooding.

Funds for the project came from Governor directed dollars within the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program managed by the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
