CITY (NewsDakota.com) Valley City officials decided to split the 9th Avenue Northwest paving improvement project into two phases last month due to the uncertainty in the passage of the federal highway funding bill.

City commissioners selected the option of working on the first phase from Main Street to 4th Street this year and then working north of 4th street next year. K-L-J Engineer Chad Petersen says the shorter distance makes more sense to complete this year with the late starting date pending on the project.

Petersen says the bid opening date is still set for June 15th pending congressional passage of the federal highway funding bill.

Meanwhile the city approved of a plan to reduce water and sewer hook-ups from $5,000 to $4,000 for 9th avenue residents being they are already paying for the pavement part of the construction project.
