(NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown High School senior Nicole Rixen has been named a distinguished finalist in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program.

Rixen is one of four North Dakota students honored in the nationwide program that honors the top youth volunteers in each state.

Rixen’s profile on the program’s web site says she “is an active volunteer who has taken mission trips to Mexico, taught Vacation Bible School to young children, and helped clean up in New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Nicole volunteers with Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society and is an active member of the National Honor Society.”

Rixen will be presented with an engraved bronze medallion during a ceremony Thursday night.

Hope Reis of Bismarck and Taytum Jones of Minot were named North Dakota’s top honorees.

Andrew Hershey of Rugby was also named a distinguished finalist.
