(NewsDakota.com) A 45 year old Jamestown man suffered a serious injury to his left leg after losing control of his motorcycle while trying to avoid a potential accident on an Interstate 94 exit in Jamestown on Friday evening.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says Steven Hetletvedt was eastbound on I-94 around 5:15 p.m., when he was preparing to exit onto the cloverleaf interchange at Exit 260.

Hetletvedt noticed another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on the on-ramp and steered toward the south edge of the exit in an effort to create distance between the two vehicles.

The Patrol says he slowed to approximately 50 miles per hour, but the speed was too fast for the curve causing the motorcycle to drifted off the south edge of the road.  Hetletvedt continued to slow and brake, but eventually lost control of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle skidded onto its left side and came to rest in the south ditch.

Hetletvedt was taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical center for his injuries. The Harley Davidson motorcycle he was riding sustained roughly $3500 in damage.
