CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The 2012 Hi-Liner football and volleyball schedules have been released.

Due to 2012 being a leap year, football games will start two days earlier than last year, and that will have Valley City wrapping up it’s second game in August.

The season begins with familiar non-conference opponents.  The Hi-Liners will face Carrington on the road August 24th, then host Dickinson Trinity August 31st.  The Hi-Liners won both non-league games over the same opponents a year ago.

Region I (eastern division) “AA” play begins the following with, with the Hi-Liners hosting Wahpeton.  They then go on the road to Griggs-Barnes County, played at Wimbledon, and to Kindred.

Homecoming will be September 28th, and it will be a big one, as the annual event will join forces with the annual “Sandbag Bowl” played between the Hi-Liners and Lisbon.  The traveling “Volunteer Trophy” will be on the line, a trophy that has never been held by Valley City.

After a road date with Fargo Shanley the following week, Valley City will face Central Cass at home on Thursday, October 11th.  They then travel to defending state champion Grafton Tuesday, October 16th, the week of teachers convention.

The Hi-Liner volleyball schedule will include two dates with Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) opponent Deviles Lake, single dates with the rest of the EDC teams, along with four tournaments and two dates with Class “B” competition.

Play begins August 24th with a two-day East-West tournament at Bismarck.  The following Tuesday will be the home opener for the Hi-Liners, as they face Class “B” rival Carrington.

EDC dates with Fargo Shanley and Fargo Davies follow, leading up to the annual Optimist Tournament in Valley City, scheduled for September 15th.  After that tournament, the Hi-Liners play their second Class “B” opponent, Maple Valley, at Tower City September 18th.

More EDC play follows with West Fargo and Grand Forks Central.  The Hi-Liners then play their third tournament, the Lisbon-Enderlin tourney, on September 29th.  After a road match at Devils Lake, they play their fourth tournament, the Fargo Invite, October 5th and 6th.

The season ends with a road trip to Wahpeton and three home matches with Fargo South, Grand Forks Red River, and Fargo North, with the regular season ending October 30th.  The EDC regional will be played at Fargo Davies November 8th through the 10th.  State tournament play will be in Minot the following week.
