CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Carrington Cardinals will take the top seed into the regional baseball tournament today in New Rockford.

The Cardinals are 15-3 overall, 9-1 in reginonal play after splitting one-run games with Harvey-Wells County this season.  The Hornets are the second seed.

Carrington plays the winner of a game between Midkota and Sheyenne-New Rockford, the four and five seeds, respectively.  Dakota Prairie and Lakota, the three and six seeds, square off in the other first-round game, with the winner facing the Hornets.

The tournament is a true double-elimination tournament, a model that more mirrors legion baseball than a loser-out, championship series format used by some regions.

Carrington has never finished higher than third during their eight past years of high school baseball.

The Cardinal games will be covered on Dakota Country Radio, KDAK AM 1600.
