CITY (Newsdakota.com)–Only an eyelash kept the Hi-Liners behind one of the top teams in Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) golf Monday.

Valley City finished officially fourth in the EDC meet at Bois de Sioux in Wahpeton, but finished tired for third with West Fargo, a ram challenging for top honors in the conference all season. Tie-breaking criteria landed the Hi-Liners in fourth.

In the process, three Hi-Liners punched tickets food the state meet during the regular-season qualifier. Nick Jenson and Ben Sorenson each qualified with a 75, and Jared Lentz also qualified, firing a 78. Tyler Stevens just missed with a 79. The marks left the team with a 307, their best score this season.

Wahpeton, golfing on their home course, was second with a 306. Fargo Shanley made a strong statement with a title-taking 295. Grand Forks Central was fifth with a 310, and Red River shot a 319.

The next meet is the biggest of the year to date, the EDC Regional on Wednesday, May 30th. A top six finish sends the Hi-Liners to the state meet June 5th and 6th in Dickinson.

Dakota Country KOVC will carry reports from the EDC Regional along with the state meet.
