CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–While the team did not manage to qualify a player, there were some wins and awards to celebrate for the Hi-Liner tennis team at the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) regional meet this past weekend.

Kierstin Lorenz was named to the All-EDC team, while she and Clarissa Olson challenged for a spot on the doubles state tourney, and Sara Gilbertson scored a major upset.

Lorenz and Olson drew the five-seed in the double tourney, and won an easy first match, before being nipped by Fargo North, the four-seed,  in three sets.  They were eliminated by a team from Fargo Davies in three sets.

Gilbertson, the #4 singles player for the Hi-Liners, upset the top singles player from Grand Forks Central in the singles individual tournament.  She was eventually beaten by Fargo North’s top player in the state-qualifying round.

Head coach Matt Nielson spoke highly of Lorenz after earning her All-EDC award.  “I’ve had the pleasure to work with Kierstin for all six years of her tennis career and teaching her in biology, chemistry, and physics.  Her work ethic, attitude, and aptitude to learn in everything she does will serve her well and will lead to success in the future.”
