N.D. (AP) – A man from the African nation of Ghana has been sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of using a fraudulent passport to enter the United States. Ashalley Kotey pleaded guilty to identity theft and immigration offenses after he made his way to North Dakota.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A Rugby man was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for punching two people in the face during a house party in January. Chet Brunelle pleaded guilty to two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He’ll also have to pay nearly $5,000 to cover medical bills.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A group of Bismarck hotel owners wants a November referendum vote on whether to expand the civic center. The project would include a large multipurpose room, more meeting rooms and exhibit space, a kitchen facility and a new west-side entrance. The proposed expansion would be paid for through an increase in taxes on liquor and hotel reservations.

GARRISON, N.D. (AP) – Fort Stevenson State Park on Lake Sakakawea will be filled with kites starting tomorrow for a weekend celebration. The Sky Dance Sakakawea Kite Festival runs through Monday. It’s the annual event’s 20th anniversary.
