CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The 2012 Barnes County Relay for Life is underway at Shelly Ellig Field and Lokken Stadium at Valley City State University.

The relay was officially opened at 10:00 a.m. Friday, and luminary bags were being placed as of 1:00 p.m.

Ceremonies are scheduled throughout the night.  Walking begins at 8:00 p.m., and the luminary ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 p.m.

The relay raises funds for cancer research.  The Barnes County relay has been one of the top per-capita fundraisers in the midwest.
