N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Marion, North Dakota native Walter Piehl, Sr. will be inducted into the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame on Saturday in Medora.

Piehl, a life-long rancher and rodeo enthusiast started buying horses back in the 1950?s for saddle and rodeo prospects.  He partnered with Olaf Berg of Kathryn and began producing local rodeos in the 1960?s.

Piehl bought out Utke (Ut-key) rodeo bulls of Fargo. He produced NDRA rodeos and supplied stock for other producers and open rodeos in the Dakota’s and Minnesota for 30 years. Walther Piehl, Sr. died in 2006 and his family will accept the award on June 23.

Ingstad Family Media’s Steve Urness will broadcast live before the induction ceremony from 11am to 2pm in Medora on the Dakota Country Radio Network and Big Dog Country Radio 95.5 FM. The induction ceremony starts at 1pm mountain time or 2pm central.
