N.D. (NewsDakota.com) More than 150 honorees have been inducted into the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame since the beginning and another 9 were inducted on Saturday.

Peter J. Pelissier was a personal friend of Theodore Roosevelt. Born in Cold Springs, Minnesota in 1865 he moved to Jamestown and worked for awhile in ranching before moving on to Medora to supply livestock for rodeos and ranching in the area.

Angus Bell was a rancher born in 1876 in Ontario, Canada and moved to Jamestown and left for Medora at the age of 15 to start his career. A one point Bell won the Rough Rider Hotel in a game of poker and ran it for several years. His ranch was in the area where the Burning Hill Amphitheater is today.

Melvin Leland.

Melvin Leland, born in Sidney, Montana and ranched with his father before marketing Red Angus cattle in 1971 and became know for the Leland Red Angus Ranch in western North Dakota.

The “Price” Ranch was established in the early 1900’s north of Mandan by William & Emily Price by setting up a tent before building a log house.

Walter Piehl Jr. of Minot.

Walter Piehl Sr. of Marion starting buying horses in the 1950’s and began producing local rodeos in the 1960’s with Olaf Berg of Kathryn. He purchased Utke rodeo bulls of Fargo and continued to provide livestock for open rodeos in the Dakota’s and Minnesota for 30 years.

Norman “Peg” O’Neil was considered the father of NDRA idea and served as its first president. O’Neil helped get the Minot Y’s Men’s Rodeo up and running.

"Anchors Aweigh"

Bareback and Saddle-Bronc “Anchors Aweigh” was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. The legendary horse was raised in Blaisdell on the Clarence Wirtz ranch before being purchased by a rodeo company near Watford City.

Bob Christophersen.

Bob Christophersen was  a  champion Steer wrestler and won a number of championships across the country.

Sisters of Newton Burr, Sr. accept the award.

And Newton Burr, Sr.  of Elbowoods was induced as a champion saddle-bronc rider. He won his first riding event in 1945 at the age of 15.
