CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team dropped a league game with Oakes last night, then battled back for a split of the evening.

Oakes took game one 4-2 for the league win, with Valley City capturing the non-league follow-up 5-1 (4).

Valley City scored in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead in the opening game, but did not score again till the seventh in the loss.  Nate Rodriguez took the loss, allowing three earned on seven hits, striking out nine over seven innings of work.

Rodriguez and Alex Milender led a six-hit effort with two each.  “As a team, we would like to hit better, but we have to give Oakes’ pitcher credit.  “It’s hard to win when you strike out 13 times,” said Valley City head coach Lance Lukes.

Jacob Miller picked up the win in game two for Valley City, working all four innings.  Miller, Mike Wendler, and Jonah Wolla each had a hit, with Wolla driving in two runs.

Valley City is now 14-12 overall, 8-5 in league play.  They host LaMoure Thursday.
