CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–LaMoure took a pair of babe ruth games from Valley City Thursday night, winning the league game 5-4 and then non-league counter 3-1.

Two Valley City errors led to runs for LaMoure, including the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh.  Jesse Johnson took the tough luck loss, working seven innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, striking out 10 in the contest.

“Johnson pitched one of his better games of the year.  Our defense had a couple of breakdowns, and in the end, that’s what hurt us and Jesse’s chance to pick up a win,” said Valley City head coach Lance Lukes.

Jacob Miller, Jordan Magnuson, and Collin Schroeder each had two hits, with Schroeder adding three RBI.

“It was nice to see a couple of players who have been slumping come up and collect a couple of hits for us.  We spent some time working on this in practice, and it shows the guys are willing to adapt and change in order to be successful,” said Lukes of the offense.

In a three-inning nightcap, Valley City took a 1-0 lead, but LaMoure scored three in the second for the win.  Dalton Ondracek had the only hit of the game for Valley City.

Valley City’s record is now 14-14 overall, and will host a Fargo team in non-league action Monday.  Their next league action will be Saturday, July 21st, in the District 6 tournament in Steele.
