CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Extreme 16-U fastpitch team earned a state championship at this year’s state tournament in Fargo this past weekend.

Jessica Denholm drove in the winning run in extra innings for the victory in the title game.  Valley City entered the bottom of the eighth down a run, but Paula Andel singled to score Madison McDaniel with the tying run, before Denholm scored Hankinson pick-up Teri Loll with the winning run.

The team has now qualified for the national tournament, held in Columbus Wisconsin from July 31st through August 5th.

Valley City had three teams competing in the Fargo league throughout the summer, a 12-U and a 14-U team.  The 16-U team this past weekend actually played in an 18-U league throughout the summer.  The 12-U team was winless in two tries at their state tournament, and the 14-U team one a game and then lost their next two.

The 16-U Valley City fast-pitch softball team now needs to raise over $6,500 in order to travel to the National Tournament in Wisconsin. This Wednesday, July 25th, they will be holding a brat feed at Valley Meat from 11AM to 1PM. All of the proceeds raised will go to help fund this trip.
