Wanzek Cysewski of Courtenay, ND passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

Joan was born on the Wanzek farm near Windsor, ND on October 8, 1930, the daughter of Paul and Veronica (Prodzinski) Wanzek.  She graduated from St. John’s Academy, Jamestown, ND in 1948 and worked as a secretary at a local bank.  She married Eugene Cysewski on October 13, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown.  They lived in the Cysewski home farm near Courtenay and farmed with her father-in-law until 1961, when they moved into their own house just a quarter mile away.  They continued to manage the family farm until retirement in 2011.

Joan was a long time member of the St. Boniface Altar Society and St. Rose’s Church Circle.  She was an active participant in the PTA and many functions of Wimbledon Public School.  Joan was an avid gardener and was renowned for the trees she planted on the farm.  Many of her trees have been transplanted to grace neighboring farms and the War Memorial in Courtenay.

Joan is survived by her husband, two daughters, Jayne (Bill) McDowell, San Diego, CA and Barbara (Walter) Cornejo, Brisbane, CA; one son, David (Lucille) Cysewski, Spiritwood Lake, ND; three grandchildren, Paul Cysewski, Courtenay, ND, Eric (Angel) Cysewski, Fried, ND, and Tania (Matt) Legge, Spiritwood, ND; six great grandchildren; seven sisters, Therese (Bob) Solinger, Nortonville, ND, Cele (Harvey) Newton, Jamestown, Louise Wanzek, Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Ken) Baenen, Lead, SD, Genevieve (Keith) Berg, Fargo, ND, Cathy (Gary) Carlson, Cleveland, ND, and Connie (Karl) Caripar, Minneapolis, MN; and three brothers, David, and Tony Wanzek, both of Jamestown, and Gene (Beth), Cleveland, ND.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Jay; her parents; two sisters, Joyce Gutensohn and Deloris Norris; and three brothers, Raphael, Kenny, and Leonard.

Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.

Vigil: 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Visitation: None scheduled.

Interment: St. Boniface Cemetery, Wimbledon, North Dakota
