N.D. (AP) — North Dakota officials say the Army Corps of Engineers is considering Missouri River management policy changes that would hurt the state’s ability to use water from the river.

The corps is taking public comment Tuesday at a meeting in Bismarck. It is looking for opinions about how to reallocate water in the river and its system of reservoirs.

State Water Commission chief engineer Todd Sando says the agency is considering charging fees for taking water out of the Missouri’s reservoirs.

North Dakota officials have protested the plan. Sando says the states along the Missouri River have the right to the water, not the Corps of Engineers.

He says officials in North Dakota and South Dakota are asking for more time to review the corps’ proposals.
