(NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission declared a burn ban for the county during its Tuesday meeting.

The ban means that burning in the county is prohibited when the Fire Danger Index is in the “very High” or “extreme” category, or a Red Flag Warning is in effect. The county had the same type of burn ban in place during dry conditions this spring.

Stutsman County emergency manager Jerry Bergquist says the ban was requested by all the fire chiefs in Stutsman County. There have currently been no major outbreaks of rural grass fires, but Bergquist says conditions are worsening

The daily Fire Danger Index can be found here.
People can also call 252-1000 to receive the latest Fire Danger Index. As of Wednesday morning, the daily index was in the “high” category, meaning burning would be permitted in Stutsman County on Wednesday.
