CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–An extremely large number of athletes and associated families will gather in Valley City this weekend, as two athletic events come to the community.

The Valley City Optimist Club will once again be hosting its annual volleyball tournament this Saturday.  The tournament will involve several area teams, and will occupy every gymnasium in the community, save Grachien Gym at VCSU, which will be active college volleyball, as Bismarck State visits Valley City State.

Cross-country will also pack people into Valley City this weekend, as the Bill Jansen Blue-White Invitational is run at Bjornson Park Public Golf Course.  Hi-Liner head cross-country coach Brian Engelhard expects over 500 athletes from nearly 30 teams to compete.

All tallied, close to 900 athletes will visit Valley City Saturday.
