CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The first phase of the 9th avenue reconstruction project is slightly behind pace despite the dry weather this year in Valley City.

Project manager Chad Pedersen said a small stretch of 9th avenue northwest from main to 2nd street northwest will be open to motorists as the project continues to move north toward 4th avenue northwest this year.

The nearly $5 million dollar project is split into two phases. The short stretch this year and the final phase will start next spring and be completed late in 2013. Lindberg Brothers of Jamestown is the main contractor for the repaving project.
