CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Men make up 80 percent of the North Dakota legislature. Is this gender imbalance important? Should more women be participating in North Dakota politics?

These questions and more will be hashed out with 7 female candidates running for public office in North Dakota tonight on the Valley City State University campus.

Kristen Baesler, non-partisan candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction; Kelly Schmidt, Republican candidate for N.D. state Treasurer; Ellen Chaffee, Democratic/NPL candidate for Lt. Governor; Pam Gulleson, Democratic/NPL candidate for N.D. U-S House of Representatives; Myrene Peterson, Republican candidate for District 24 House; Naomi Muscha, Democratic/NPL candidate for District 24 House and Sharon Buhr, Democratic NPL candidate for District 24 House.

VCSU faculty member and Theater Director, Jenni Lou Russi will moderate the discussion. The event is sponsored by “What in the World is Going On” and will be held tonight at 7:30pm inside Froemke auditorium on the VCSU campus. All area woman are encouraged to attend the event which is free and open to the public.
