CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The old North Valley Bridge will be dismantled the first week in October north of Valley City.

Project manager Shawn Mayfield said the bridge was closed last month after the new $2.4 million bridge was completed.

Mayfield said barges will be used to eliminate debris from reaching the river during the dismantling process.

Mayfield said after the old bridge is completely dismantled the contractor, Industrial builders, will landscape the west side of the project in October.

The new bridge is 4 feet higher than the old bridge which closed temporarily back in 2009 and 2011 due to spring flooding.
