MAYVILLE (NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School Football needed a game like the one they played on Friday night against the Mayville-Portland/Clifford-Galesburg Patroits.
Blake Hollingsworth scored a pair of touchdowns to give the Tornadoes their fourth win of the season with a 36-12 victory over the Pats.
Oakes took control from the start, by scoring on their first four drives of the game, and limiting the Patriot offenses to a net total of -1 yards. The Pats picked up a couple of scores in garbage time, as they went up against mostly members of the Oakes second string defense.
“We came out swinging tonight.” said Oakes coach Greg Dobitz. “Our boys played hard, and very, very well, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
With one more week to go, Oakes (4-2) can still force a tie for first in Region I, if they can defeat Maple Valley/Enderlin next week in Enderlin. Coverage next Friday night on KDDR and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30, with kick at 7 p.m.
