CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A Valley City Commissioner is facing a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident in Valley City.

Special Assistant City Attorney Lee Grossman says Madaline Luke was charged with failure to notify the owner of a parked vehicle she struck on 6th avenue northeast near Mercy Hospital last month.

Luke told KOVC radio news she struck a parked vehicle trying to avoid a collision with a truck traveling in the opposite direction. She stopped and checked both vehicles and thought damage was minimal and drove home.

Luke contacted the owner of the vehicle and their respective insurance companies are handling the damage claim. Luke said she takes full responsibility for her actions and intends to cooperate fully to get the incident resolved as quickly as possible.

Due to a conflict of interest, City Attorney Russ Myhre and Valley City Municipal Judge Tom Goven recused themselves from the case.
