URS Hydrologist Abby Korte says their company uses bio engineering practices such as planting trees and other vegetation to alleviate river bank erosion compared to rock rip rap or sheet piling techniques.

Valley City Commissioner Madeline Luke says exploring all options on how to reduce river bank erosion is good for Valley City.

The estimated cost of the URS study is between $55,000 to $60,000 dollars. Korte said the project may be eligible for a grant from the state water commission to pick up 50 percent of the cost study share. The commission took no action flowing the presentation on Monday.
